Kabocha Gohan

Filed under: kento — adekun @ 6:12 am

My wife left early this morning to play volleyball and I was left to manage Mister Wriggler (who is now seven months old). After a stirring nappy change, I decided a very long brisk walk was needed. Once back, I managed to take a couple of photos, whilst we waited for the rice to finish cooking.

After mixing up some pumpkin, I did a good job of spooning it into his mouth. Between mouthfuls it got smeared liberally.

Having cleaned up, more of the same antics were to follow.

One Year And Six Months

Filed under: garden, kento — adekun @ 1:41 pm

I’ve been living in Japan for a year, it is also six months since Kento arrived. What is notable is how quickly the time has passed. Although we haven’t had an income since I left England, it has been a boon to be able to spend the time together (and also in the garden).

Most of yesterday was spent digging and sowing red clover as I hoped to travel to Kyoto today.

Three Times A Night

Filed under: kento — adekun @ 4:50 am

There are plenty of bizarre occurrences here in Japan. For example, my neighbour’s giant cabbages. They seemed to appear overnight, as if they were teleported from Outer Space. Another is how people announce their arrrival by shouting gomen kudasai (please excuse me) and waking up Kento - having spent most of the afternoon trying to get him to sleep.
Anyway, on the subject of sleep (which I should mention I conditioned myself to sleep through Kento’s cries within weeks of him arriving), I now find myself stirring. Although I manage to fall straight back to sleep, I do recall yesterday waking to find Kento between us, later being absent and this morning back again, sandwiched in the middle. So perhaps a gomen kudasai to my poor wife.

Gordon Arrives In Time For The Snow & Setsubun

Filed under: garden, kento — adekun @ 1:29 pm

I’m glad I braved the snow the other day, it was the beginning of what turned out to be a lot of snow. The potatoes were harvested and the empty beds dug over. Here in the city we had 23 cm and nearby Mount Daisen took over a metre on top of that. I did manage a trip out early on, to take advantage of the sale at the local supermarket. It seems a fairly regular event, most of the toys and clothes are reduced by 30%.

Whilst it snowed…

.. we played trains

Zero and a quarter

Filed under: kento — adekun @ 10:37 am

Today, we weighed him, he has gained almost 4 kilos since he was born. I think his favourite place is the bath. He really loves it. Perhaps that is because, there here can hone his sharp-shooting skills? He is very apt at choosing the moment, Still my wife gets her own back when it comes to feeding time, poor little boy doesn’t know what to do.

Sleepy head

Filed under: kento — adekun @ 9:31 am

He’s going to be three months old on Thursday. Over the past month, he has become much more vocal. Qooing and laughing, but I think tonight is going to be difficult since he slept through most of the day. Most nights though, it’s usually just the once for a feed and a cuddle.

Gone with wind

Filed under: kento — adekun @ 8:54 pm

Can’t think of anything witty to say. Been kept awake since the wee hourse by the wee one.
He’s full of gas can’t but really change his diet. Little chance of me getting back to sleep now, although I’m sure he’ll have no trouble.
Cold now in the mornings, so have donned my winter jinbei (japanese pyjamas). I’m going to mooch around the garden in a vain attempt to wake up.

Drink up

Filed under: kento — adekun @ 8:46 am

There is a strong chance the doctors will want to keep Kento (and my wife) in for the next two weeks. If he can put some more weight on overnight then maybe we can all go home tomorrow.
