Albino Asparagus

The first spears of asparagus have pierced the surface - following the thorough watering the garden had a week ago. From the initial appearance, it has taken a week for all six crowns to show their goods. A little curious after seeing an expensive white variety at the local supermarket, I moved a little half composted cover to the side on one about to emerge. There looking up was the prized white asparagus. A day later in the sunshine, a more familiar purple is beginning to take.

Jealous! Actually, that reminds me… I must check with Thompson and Morgan to find out where the hell my plants are. Grr!

Since they were (apparently) two years old when I planted them back in the middle of September, I guess I should keep my mitts off. More the case the MIL.

We have just started to harvest our asparagus that we planted nearly two years ago and it tastes fabulous! Hope yours tastes just as good!

Hello there,
I’m hoping that eighteen months will be okay. It is almost a shame, watching them shoot up and fan out and just having to look on. I’m tempted to get some more crowns??
