Spring Wind
The inklings of spring have been raised with strong winds called haruichiban (lit. spring first). The winds signify the beginning of spring, already the evenings seem longer. If it wasn’t so rainy, I’d be able to finish digging the strip (between the onions and garlic), I had been avoiding. During the odd dry interval, I managed to complete the first half and hope over the coming week to have the rest done. A couple of garlic bulbs, with two shoots were dug and split. These appear fine, but wonder if this was a little foolhardy?
Hmm - if they’re not actively growing they may rot; they’re prone to it in damp conditions. Can I just ask - why dig rather than hoe? Usually you’d just use a swan hoe anywhere near anything alliumish.

I’ve stuck a couple of photos of what I’ve been up to. On my previous dig I had left an area about a metre wide between beds (land grab from the MIL).
I’m doing the weeding about the garlic and onions by hand.
I haven’t been able to find a reasonable fork here, a swan hoe is definitely pushing it.
