Torrential Rain

Yesterday began what has been the heaviest rain since October. It has been the first real test of the mizo (trenches) and I am pleased to see they performed better than expected. What instigated the digging, was the flooding of the Onion Stronghold. The photo was taken early on, already the rain was collecting around the asparagus.
During the night there were frequent bursts of kami nari (lit. God heard – thunder), so we sandwiched Kento between ourselves in case he became frightened. Instead of tears I got an earful of giggles.

I found your blog via GardenWeb and am looking forward to reading more about your gardening in the coming year! Just PLEASE do not post any more pictures like the one in your “osechi” post… it looks very delicious, and makes me jealous that we do not eat so well here!

I had a look at yours too, have to see what comes up. I could post a pic of some natto, even without the smell it makes my stomach turn.

I had to google natto to find out exactly what it is… and found an article describing it on wikipedia. Based on the picture, it looks like the smell would make your stomach turn.
My brother is going to Japan next month for business. I think that I will suggest to him that he ask for natto for breakfast one day at his hotel!
